Arguably the best ten in Scotland?  Find out for yourself

Getting there

St Mary's Cathedral is located in the West End of Glasgow and should not be confused with Glasgow Cathedral (St Mungo's) located in the city centre.

It is equidistant from the Underground stations Kelvinbridge and St George's Cross.

On-street parking is available on Great Western Road (limited) but more reliably on Napiershall Road and surrounding streets.  Street parking is Pay & Display but free after 6.30pm weeknights, and weekends on Napiershall Road.

Facilities

There are toilets located in the church hall adjacent to the Cathedral.  This is often locked but the local ringer will have access to a key.

Accessibility

The ringing chamber is accessed via more than 50 steps in a spiral staircase from the east side of the Cathedral.  Although there are a lot of them, the steps are well-maintained and even.

The Cathedral itself is wheelchair-accessible from the main door.

Food and Drink

There are several cafes and pubs on Great Western Road.  The ringers tend to travel a bit further and frequent the Bon Accord, which has an excellent beer and whisky selection.  This is located in the Charing Cross area, near the Mitchell Library and a very short walk to Charing Cross rail station.

Interesting Facts

Look up on the walls of the ringing chamber for the bells that make up the Seage apparatus, an early simulator, which has been used in living memory.  The apparatus is one of only a few left in the UK and is in good order.
