Dumfries is one of the newest towers in the Scottish Association with a growing and enthusiastic band. The back five bells came from a redundant church near Glasgow via the Keltek Trust. The new bells were cast at Whitechapel Bell Foundry in August and December 2013. The bells were hung in the tower in November 2013 and February 2014.
Getting there
Dumfries train station is less than 5 minute's walk away, with links to trains from Glasgow or Carlisle.
Free disc parking on surrounding roads from (8am to 6pm). Discs available in the church. Disc not needed in the evening or on Sunday. There is limited free parking in church car-park and free parking in Council car park further down Newall Terrace.
Facilities
There are toilets located in the church hall, which is accessed through the church building.
Accessibility
The ringing chamber is located up a short and even spiral staircase. The ringing chamber itself is compact (so large groups should wait at the foot of the tower). The church, hall and toilets are accessible.
Food and Drink
The Station Hotel is the nearest pub, which also does food, five minutes walk from the church. Ten minutes walk brings you to the town centre, where there are plenty of other options.
Interesting Facts
The band is a mix of brand-new ringers and returning lapsed ringers. All the new ringers have used the Learn-to-Ring scheme, using ITTS/ART instructors, and it has been a successful application of the scheme.
